Who We Are
The mission of the Waterford Foundation is to preserve the historic buildings and the open spaces of the National Historic Landmark of Waterford, Virginia and through education to increase the public’s knowledge of life and work in an early American rural community.
What We Do
The Foundation holds several events throughout the year to raise money for the upkeep of the historic properties and continued implementation of our programs, two of which are the Waterford Craft School and the Second Street School Program.
The Waterford Craft School brings master crafts people to Waterford for classes ranging from 3 hrs to 5 days. Some subjects taught include: basketry, stonewall building, jewelry-smithing, shoe making, weaving, and more. Details on classes can be found at https://www.waterfordfoundation.org/programs/waterford-craft-school/.
More than 50,000 Loudoun County 4th graders have been through the Second Street School Program at the Foundation’s one-room school house. Children are immersed in the 1800s, assigned a real student’s name & history from that time period, and role play a day in the life of the student.
Events we can use help with included the Waterford Fair (first full weekend of October), the Feast with Friends Dinner Series (varying dates), and the Trail Run, fun, 5k, & 10k (end of April). To volunteer for the 2021 Fair follow this link: https://www.eventeny.com/events/volunteer/application/?id=1069
We are always looking for passionate people to help on our standing committees: preservation, properties, education, Phillips Farm, development and land use.
Please contact us if you are interested in getting involved for a few hours or a few years!
