Who We Are

The mission of Fairfax CASA is to advocate for the best interests of each abused and neglected child referred by the Fairfax County Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court through the promotion and support of quality volunteer representation. We seek to ensure that each child’s needs are identified and addressed with the goal of living in a safe and permanent home.Every child deserves a safe and loving home. Our vision is to recruit, train, and supervise enough highly qualified and committed citizens to provide a strong advocate – a CASA volunteer – for each child under the Court’s protection. CASA volunteers are a child’s best hope for a positive future.

What We Do

Our volunteers advocate for the most vulnerable children in our community. The children referred to our program by the juvenile court typically have experienced serious physical or sexual abuse or severe neglect at the hands of their caregivers. Tragically, over 45 percent of these children are under seven (7) years of age. CASA volunteers work one-on-one with these children to ensure that they are safe, that their treatment needs are met, and that court orders are followed. Stated simply, CASA volunteers ensure that these vulnerable children do not fall through the cracks of an overburdened child welfare and legal systems. Importantly, CASA volunteers work as part of a team that includes juvenile court personnel, the child’s Guardian ad litem, social workers, and therapists to determine the best interests of each child in care. The written reports submitted to the presiding juvenile court judge provide the judge with an in-depth review of each child’s family circumstances. Their reports are objective, fact-based, and thorough. Our volunteers also make independent recommendations to the judge related to the best interests of the children they serve.
