Who We Are

Every year, the U.S. grows 1+ billion pumpkins, most of which end up in landfills, creating methane and wasting all the water, soil, and labor it took to grow them. We exist to change that. Pumpkins for Pigs Foundation connects communities with local farms and animal rescues that can use pumpkins and other foods as nutritious feed. What started in 2017 with 10 sites in Virginia has grown into a nationwide effort serving 600+ communities in 45 states, and we have a lot more to do. By donating pumpkins, produce, hay, straw, holiday trees, and more, volunteers help keep thousands of pounds of reusable resources out of landfills and in the hands of animals who need them. We also work to reduce food waste before it happens through simple, practical education. Join us in building a community that helps one another—humans and animals alike. Your involvement keeps food out of landfills, supports local farms and rescues, and makes a real, measurable impact. Ready to get involved?

What We Do

We make it easy for people to keep good, usable resources out of landfills. Through our nationwide network of donation sites, anyone can quickly find local farms and animal rescues that accept pumpkins, produce, hay, holiday trees, and other items that still have value. We also teach simple, practical ways to reduce waste before it starts—helping families, communities, and small businesses save money, protect the planet, and support the animals and farms that keep our communities strong. We provide the general public access to a network of donation sites accepting foodstuffs and non-food items through our website. We educate by highlighting opportunities to reduce overall waste – food and non-food items - and the impacts of food waste.
