The Potomac River is one of the largest rivers that flows into the Chesapeake Bay, and is the source of up to 75% of the drinking and washing water in the region. Littering, runoff, and trash contribute to a widespread problem that affects everyone. In addition to the impact litter has on the local environment, it ultimately makes its way to the ocean and can cause severe damage to plant and wildlife. It is critical that we do our part to PREVENT trash from getting into the Potomac river and ultimately the ocean.
On 9/22 from 12:30PM-4:30PM, we will be picking up litter at Great Falls Park (9200 Old Dominion Dr. McLean, VA 22102). Great Falls Park will provide trash bags, gloves, trash pickers, etc. Barbera Foundation will provide water and snacks to all the volunteers. All you need to do is bring yourself, your friends, your kids and get ready to pick up some trash! This is a big effort, and there is a lot of trash that needs to be picked up, so we will need about 50-60 people.
For every straw, plastic bag, flip flop, or candy wrapper that you pick up, you can know that you are making a huge impact on our environment which will help to keep our Potomac River clean and safe for all of us to enjoy!
