Northern Virginia Long-Term Care Ombudsman

Who We Are

The Northern Virginia Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program advocates for the rights of residents of nursing and assisted living facilities. Ombudsmen also help residents resolve conflicts and improve their quality of life. Our program serves residents in the following jurisdictions: Loudoun County, Fairfax County, Arlington County, and the City of Alexandria.

What We Do

The Northern Virginia Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program recruits volunteer advocates who are empathetic, diplomatic, assertive and skilled communicators to:

  • Visit local nursing and assisted living facilities;
  • Work to protect resident rights and help to resolve problems;
  • Dedicate three to four hours/week for one year; and
  • Receive 18 hours of on-going training and support throughout the year.

We offer a three-day training twice a year to interested volunteers. Our next training will be offered in March/April 2026! We require background checks and references before attending the training, so please sign up early to make sure you can attend!
