Who We Are

BrightFocus Foundation, founded in 1973, is relentlessly focused on finding cures for the diseases that every American is most likely to face, diseases that afflict humanity with the conditions that many fear the most—loss of sight and loss of mind. BrightFocus' mission is to drive innovative research worldwide and promote awareness of Alzheimer’s, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. By meeting our mission, we envision a future free from diseases of mind and sight.

What We Do

BrightFocus Foundation is at the forefront of brain and eye health, advancing early-stage, investigator-initiated research around the world. Our programs are designed to provide initial funding for highly innovative experimental ideas for Alzheimer's disease, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Most of the awardees use their donor award money to demonstrate key findings that lead to later interest and additional funding from industrial or governmental funding agencies. It’s our firm belief that having the courage to invest in innovative ideas will lead to revolutionary treatments, preventions, and cures for more than 20 million Americans living with these diseases.
