Who We Are
Mission: To teach adults the basic skills of reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English so they can access employment and educational opportunities and more fully and equitably participate in the community.
The English Empowerment Center (EEC) is Northern Virginia’s oldest and largest adult literacy organization. Founded in 1962, EEC has served more than 65,000 adults to date. With a large network of volunteers who serve as teachers, class aides, and tutors, the English Empowerment Center (EEC) teaches English to beginning-level learners at many different locations and also online.
What We Do
EEC’s programs provide general English language instruction, targeted literacy skill development, and language for career–specific pathways. EEC offers a variety of in-person and online English classes, making them accessible to the largest number of adults with the most urgent language needs.
