Who We Are
Mission: To redefine education by co-creating a community with youth which supports them socially, emotionally, and intellectually as they discover their self-determined path and transition into adulthood.
Embark Center is a democratic, self-directed learning community for ages 10-18 that embraces real-life learning. Members enjoy autonomy and engage in activities ranging from classes and projects to games and conversations. Our sociocratic governance empowers young people to develop leadership, communication, and collaboration skills essential for adulthood.
What We Do
At Embark Center, we prioritize meaningful, personalized education over a one-size-fits-all model.
- Mentoring: Each member is paired with a staff mentor for weekly one-on-one meetings, fostering strong, supportive relationships that help young people feel seen and valued.
- Community: Members thrive in a welcoming environment where learning, laughter, and connection are central. Bad weather closures are met with disappointment, reflecting the genuine joy members feel at Embark.
- Learning Opportunities: With diverse classes and activities led by staff and community volunteers, we offer a wide range of topics, from traditional academic subjects like algebra to interests like Japanese language or computer programming, all based on members’ interests and passions.
Embark Center connects young people to a world of possibilities, supporting them in forging their unique paths.
