Who We Are
AAAS STEM Volunteers
What We Do
We seek retired or still working STEM professionals to assist teachers in K-12 classrooms. Volunteers commit to the entire school year. Retirees are present a few hours once a week and volunteers still working are in classrooms a few hours every 2-3 weeks. Volunteers can assist teachers and students in many ways: help with science fairs; develop activities jointly with teachers; explore opportunities for field trips and other programs designed to enhance the learning experience; advise students during lab experiments, scientific investigations, and STEM projects; complement the teacher's presentations and add a practical perspective if needed; work with teachers to enhance/improve course content; make presentations based on their expertise when appropriate; and help teachers design experimental challenges to demonstrate scientific and engineering principles for the students.
