Who We Are

Since 1917, Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA), a human services and immigration relief and refugee welcome agency, has accompanied those in need throughout Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. to foster resiliency, self-sufficiency, and access to opportunities. Our services extend beyond initial arrival, offering ongoing support for families, youth, children, and individuals as they rebuild their lives in the D.C. metro area

What We Do

In 1945, LSSNCA expanded its services to support refugees fleeing their homes during World War II. Today, we provide case management, mental health and wellness support, and workforce development services to help refugees, asylum-seekers, Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders, Afghan allies, and others seeking safety achieve self-sufficiency.

In Fiscal Year 2024, LSSNCA served over 4,300 individuals from over 48 countries, provided employment services to 2,456 individuals, and secured 2,477 job placements. We also welcomed nearly 8,500 Afghan allies since Kabul was seized in 2021, and more than 215 Ukrainians since conflict struck their country.
