Who We Are
Our members extend “A Helping Hand Along the Way”
Travelers Aid International is a national network of social service agencies and transportation services organized to assist our 44 member agencies in meeting the critical needs of individuals, frequently in crisis situations, by extending “A Helping Hand Along the Way.” Our members are a diverse group of human service nonprofit organizations and a network of key transportation centers. Each member agency has evolved to provide core services that meet their own community’s specific needs. Our members help stranded travelers, provide shelter for the homeless, transitional housing, job training, counseling, local transportation assistance and other programs to help people who encounter crises as they journey through life as well as information and referral services at airports, train stations and bus depots.
What We Do
We are the customer service arm of Washington Dulles International Airport. We have 14 Information Desks throughout the airport and assist both international and domestic passengers. Our volunteers answer general questions about the airport, help locate a lost friend or missing item, provide directions to transportation options, and offer guidance on airport restaurants and shops.

Stranded Traveler Assistance
At many Travelers Aid locations, on an individual basis, a case worker will work with a stranded individual and offer suggestions on the best way to get home.
Travelers Aid International’s Direct Operations
In addition to supporting member agencies, Travelers Aid International directly operates the Travelers Aid programs in the Washington and New York metropolitan areas.
Through a partnership with Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Travelers Aid International operates information booths at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport. For more than 100 years Travelers Aid has operated an information booth at Washington Union Station, located in the Amtrak waiting area, which also provides some social services to those encountering a crisis while traveling.
Travelers Aid employs 14 professional staff members at these 5 locations assisted by nearly 800 volunteers who together assist more than 4 million passengers in their travels.
