Station Stitchers

Who We Are

Station Stitchers started with a group of like-minded ladies who got together once a week at the Purcellville Train Station to sew together as far back as 2010.  They focused on making quilts that they could then donate to the hospital in Leesburg (Inova).  It started with giving quilts to Oncology patients when they were receiving treatment, then added on Pediatrics, ICU, etc.  Inova was the primary recipient of our quilts, although we started to branch out to the Homeless Shelter.  With Covid locking people at home, we began to receive  more volunteers making a lot more quilts.

The group moved into a dedicated studio to support the growing need to house the supplies to create the growing need for quilts.  In 2020 we obtained our 501(c)3.  Our studio houses shelves of donated fabric, a long arm, 2 sewing machines and all supplies needed to create quilts.   The number of quilts we have been able to complete and donate has grown significantly.

In 2023 we logged approx. 550 quilt tops/quilts, 2024 it grew to approx 800 and in 2025 we logged just over 1000 quilt tops/quilts.  A quilt top is one piece of the puzzle.  Completing a quilt requires backing, batting, long arm quilting and then binding each quilt.  Last year we donated over 800 quilts to our community partners created by 50 active volunteers logging over 7,000 hours.

The Station Stitchers studio provides a place of friendship, mentorship, creativity and inspiration for all of our volunteers. The volunteer led organization has no paid employees and all materials and equipment are funded through generous donations from community sponsors. COME QUILT WITH US!
